The Kansas Acoustic Arts Association and the Wichita Blues Society have teamed up this year to present free Summer Concerts in the Park. Every other Saturday in June and July, bring a lawn chair or blanket, maybe a picnic lunch, and enjoy free acoustic performances from some very talented Wichita musicians from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park.
You’ll find them set up in the Riverside Central Park, near the interactive fountain and wildlife exhibit (aka the Riverside Park Zoo). Here’s a link to a map.
Here’s the schedule for the remaining Acoustic Arts/Blues Society concerts this summer:
- June 16 Robin Roberts, Wayne and Artheta Long, L. Wayne Jones
- June 30 Howard Mahan, Wonderlust, Back Porch Buddha
- July 14 Victor Rose and Friends, Craig Steward, Women Without Purses
- July 28 Trevor Stewart & Earthlines, River City Ramblers, Front Porch Blues
The concerts are in a shady, grassy area, but it still gets hot. I recommend that you bring plenty of water, wear a hat, and make sure the kids are slathered in sunscreen. The nearby interactive fountain is great for letting the kids cool off. There are also picnic tables nearby. It’s a nice way to spend a few hours on a Saturday in Wichita. And it’s completely free.
