The free STARBASE summer camp at McConnell Air Force Base is a favorite of ours. Registration for the STARBASE Stem Summer Camps opens March 23, 2021 at 9 a.m.
What is the Kansas STARBASE Summer Camp?
The STARBASE program is a series of one-week long STEM related camps that you can choose from. Launching rockets, programming robots, and designing on CAD are just a few of the activities kids will experience during STARBASE summer academies. They will be using S-cience, T-echnology, E-ngineering and M-ath (STEM skills) while working in teams on hands-on projects.
Even though STARBASE is held on the McConnell Air Force Base, the summer program is open to all current 4th and 5th grade students who have not already attended a STARBASE academy during the previous school year. Students may register for one of the four camps. Registration is required and space is limited. Classes are open on a first come, first available basis.
2021 STARBASE Summer Academy Schedule
The following camps are available in Wichita:
June 7-10 Power Up
June 14-17 Power Up (Girls Only)
June 21-24 Rockets and Robots
June 28-July 1 Young Engineers
To register and learn more about the camps, GO HERE. There is a form that must be downloaded, signed and then faxed or emailed back. Once the registration has been completed, you will receive an email within 48 hours with more information.
The STARBASE academy is also offered in Manhattan, Salina, Kansas City and Topeka. If you have friends in any of those cities, make sure you tell them about this program!
STARBASE Wichita Fees
While there is no fee for the academic camps, they do depend on donations to fund the summer programs. The average cost per student is just over $150, but they say a $100 donation would help cover most costs. Please consider donating whatever amount you can to support the program. The donations are tax-deductible.
**FINE PRINT: STARBASE academy is open to all area students who are currently in 4th and 5th grade. Due to demand, Wichita academies are only open to those students who did NOT attend a STARBASE academy during the previous school year. Each student may choose ONE camp session to attend.
