St. Francis Street in downtown Wichita – the portion from Douglas to 2nd – has been under construction to transform the street, turning it into a two-way, widening the sidewalks, adding angled parking, new lights, benches, and decorative pavers and trees. There is a new parking lot and Centennial Plaza has been graced with the Rotary Time Tower (pictured).
Construction is now finished and the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation is inviting the public to a celebration on Friday, June 29, 2012. The St. Francis Street celebration will begin with remarks from the mayor and others at Centennial Plaza at 4:30 p.m., but the fun will continue throughout the evening with street musicians, fire-eaters, classic cars, food trucks, a chalk art demo, and open houses at several of the businesses along the street.
Free ice cream from Highland Dairy will be available to the first 100 people.
