The Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson will have a free Family Fun Day of Education tomorrow, Thursday, July 21, 2011. The day begins early at 4:30 a.m., when space fans will gather to watch the Atlantis’ final landing. The Hall of Space will be open after the landing party and admission is free until 9 a.m.
From 9 – 10 a.m., Coffee at the Cosmo will be on the topic, “From Outer Space to Inner Space to Our Space: Liberty Bell 7’s 50th Anniversary.” Afterwards, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Cosmosphere will have free activities in honor of the Liberty Bell 7’s 50th anniversary. Activities include:
- Presentations at 11 a.m and 3 p.m. by the Cosmosphere crew who worked on the restoration.
- Simulated astronaut physicals will be offered in the KAOS camp area on the second floor!
- Special selection of Mercury and Liberty Bell 7 artifacts will be showcased by the Cosmosphere’s Collections Manager.
- Watch film footage from the rescue of Liberty Bell 7 on a big screen in the lobby.
- And don’t forget your camera, take your own photo with the Mercury 7 Crew!
The Liberty Bell 7 activities are free to the public; normal admission applies for other museum attractions.
