What fun! This Saturday, August 14, 2010, Clinton State Park is offering free park entrance. In addition to the free entrance, special youth activities are schedule, including a fishing clinic and an “Animal Show & Tell” that are also free.
Arrive early for the fishing derby from 9-11 a.m. Kids participating in the free fishing clinic will receive instruction from a Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks fisheries biologist and then have the chance to win prizes for the fish they catch. Poles and bait will be provided. Each kid will receive a fishing “goodie bag.”
That evening, from 7-8 p.m., biologists will show the live turtles and snakes (in cages, thank goodness) and tell attendees about venomous snakes and other animals. Each attendee will receive a free snake identification booklet.
And if that didn’t freak you out, you can camp overnight. Clinton State Park normally charges $8.50 per tent, but this weekend one kids’ tent on your site will be free. For a site with water and electricity, add $9.00
Clinton State Park is about 4 miles west of Lawrence. If you think you can squeeze in one more family camping trip before school starts, find out more about the event at the KS Department of Wildlife and Parks website.
