KPTS Channel 8 has teamed up with the Indian Center to promote its new four-part documentary, Native America, which explores the history of indigenous people in North and South America.
The event will be called Native America Celebration Day and will feature FREE admission to the Indian Center, a Trail of Tears Memorial Walk, a FREE traditional meal (wow) from noon to 1 p.m. while supplies last, and a dance exhibition.
You’ll be able to participate in education stations, talks by Native American groups, and other activities.
Native America Celebration Day is open to visitors of all ages from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 6.
Then on Thursday evening, October 11, the Mid-America All-Indian Center will host a free screening of the first episode of Native America. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the screening begins at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
The documentary will air on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. at KPTS Channel 8 beginning Tuesday, October 23.
Each show will cover various aspects of the history and culture of indigenous peoples from Canada to Peru. Learn about the massive civilizations that rose and fell over millennia; the connection between native cultures and nature; how ancient builders aligned their structures with the cosmos; and how the arrival of Europeans changed the identities of indigenous tribes.
