Barleycorn’s is hosting Big Dopes from Denver and Wichita’s Hardwood Cherry for a 21+ show on Saturday night, October 23, 2021.
The show starts at 9 p.m. There’s no cover.
Big Dopes are out on a midwest tour for their album Destination Wedding, which will be released this November. The group’s first album, Crimes Against Gratitude, was released in 2019. Here’s more info:
“Big Dopes’ 2019 album Crimes Against Gratitude was simply one of the most meaningful records out of the realm of indie rock and power pop that year. With tastefully fuzzy melodies the band’s poignant and touchingly poetic lyrics stripped bare the pretense that coats too much modern popular music.” Tom Murphy, QUEEN CITY SOUNDS AND ART
Big Dopes recalls the loose, lighthearted feel of 90s alternative and indie rock, like Weezer, Built to Spill, and Pavement. Lead songwriter Eddie Schmid uses a playful, conversational baritone to sing through neuroses about long-distance relationships, being a houseguest, and wasting money on busted headphones.
In 2021, the Denver band released “Lovers on the Weekdays” and “Aimee Avenue,” the first two singles from their sophomore album Destination Wedding, due November 5, 2021. With that came the band’s first official tour, taking them through the Midwest and Colorado’s Front Range.
In 2019, the band released its debut album Crimes Against Gratitude. It was named one of the best albums of the year by Birdy Magazine, and one of the Top Colorado Albums of 2019 by Colorado Public Radio.
