Are you looking for a fun getaway for the family before school starts? I’ve heard good things about the Amelia Earhart Festival in Atchinson (they say they have the best fireworks show you’ll ever see), which begins this week with the opening of the carnival on Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
Some of the events — like the carnival, the Lakefest concert with Darius Rucker, and the Amelia Earhart Museum Open House — do have a fee, but many of the festival’s activities are free of charge, like live music and activities downtown, Amelia at the Library, the aerobatic performances and the big fireworks grand finale on Saturday, July 16 at Warnock Lake*.
Find the full schedule here, or view the brochure in pdf format here.
*Because of flooding in the regular festival location, water-front activities have been moved to Warnock Lake.
