These should be fun and educational. October 8 – 15 is Fire Prevention Week in Sedgwick County and a number of activities are scheduled throughout the county:
Fire Station 37 Open House
October 8, 2011, 1 to 4 p.m., 4343 North Woodlawn, Bel Aire. Activities include demonstrations, games, tours, food, refreshments, moon-walk, Bel Aire Police Department and Sedgwick County Fire Department’s Captain Colton (nine-foot inflatable firefighter), and Freddie the talking Fire Engine.
19th Annual 5th Grade Fire Prevention Adventure
October 11, 2011, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sedgwick County Zoo. The Sedgwick County Fire Department invites 5th grade teachers and students to participate in the 19th Annual Fire Prevention Adventure. To register your class, contact Patti Peterson at (316) 660-3473.
Fire Station 35 Open House
October 15, 2011, 1 to 4 p.m., 1535 S. 199th Street W., Goddard. Activities include demonstrations from the SCFD Technical Rescue Team and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s police service dogs. Some of the participating agencies are the Goddard Police Department, Guardians of the Ribbon’s Pink Fire Truck, Fire Education Clowns, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s DUI trailer, and EagleMed.
Kansas State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony
October 22, 1:30 p.m., Kansas Firefighters Museum and Memorial 1300 S. Broadway, Wichita. Firefighters, honor guards and dignitaries from across the state will gather at the memorial grounds to remember and honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
