Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is a day when people eat and drink all they want before the start of Lent. Lent is a period of 40 days of fasting and preparation for Christians leading up to Easter. We may not have beads and parades in Wichita to celebrate this fun day, but we do have food and entertainment!
Several Wichita businesses have come up with creative and delicious ways to celebrate Mardi Gras this year, which is on Tuesday, February 13.
The Donut Whole will be serving King Cake Donuts in traditional Mardi Gras colors. There will be lucky babies inserted into random donuts and if you order a dozen donuts in advance, they guarantee one lucky baby in every dozen. Order yours today to guarantee you get your Mardi Gras donuts! Orders must be placed in person today to guarantee your order. The donuts are $16.93/dozen or $11.82/half dozen for these premium donuts. The Donut Whole is located at 1720 E. Douglas.
Aero Plains Brewery is hosting a Fat Tuesday Mardis Gras Celebration starting at 6 p.m. on February 13th. There will be live music from Huffy and the Night Train beginning at 7 p.m. Chisholm’s American Beef & Ale House will have Jambalaya and Etouffe for purchase! Aero Plains is located at 117 N. Handley St. in Delano.
Blue Moon Caterers is having their annual Red Bean’s Bayou Grill Memorial Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party on Tuesday, February 13, from 4 to 9 p.m. This is the one time of year you can enjoy some of your favorite dishes from the former Red Bean’s Bayou restaurant. They will have a buffet featuring: Firecracker Pasta, Pork Loin Thibideaux, Fried Pickles, Jambalya and more. Adults are $25 each. Kids 4 to 12 are $11 and children under 4 are FREE. Doo Dah Diner is celebrating their 5th Annual Fat Tuesday Cajun Feast. This is an all you can eat Cajun dinner from 5 to 8 p.m on Tuesday, February 13. This year the proceeds will benefit the Oxford House. Call (316) 265-7011 to make your reservations. Dinner is $30 for adults and kids under 12 are $15. Doo Dah Diner is located at 206 E. Kellogg St.
The Hyatt Regency Wichita will be serving a Mardi Gras inspired meal for both lunch and dinner. You will have your choice of traditional gumbo, crawfish etouffe with Cajun black rice, seafood jambalaya or steak. Visit the Facebook event page for individual prices. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Hyatt Regency Wichita is located at 400 W. Waterman St.

Crown Uptown Theatre will have a Mardi Gras party on Friday, February 23, with Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band. “Once the accordion-playing virtuoso grabs the mic and takes to the stage, audiences are treated to a show like no other. Chubby’s sound is an infectious concoction of blues, 70s funk, rock and roll, and good-ole zydeco that makes even the most timid individuals get their feet a movin’.” General Admission Tickets are $18.50 in advance and $25 the day of the show. General Admission seating is limited and on a first come, first serve basis-unless you have a reserved booth. After that, it is standing room only!
