We may not have beads and parades in Wichita to celebrate this fun day, but we do have food and entertainment!
Several Wichita businesses have come up with creative and delicious ways to celebrate Mardi Gras/ Fat Tuesday this year, which is on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Wave will host a Mardi Gras party on Friday, February 22, with Grammy Award winner Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band. “Once the accordion-playing virtuoso grabs the mic and takes to the stage, audiences are treated to a show like no other. Chubby’s sound is an infectious concoction of blues, 70s funk, rock and roll, and good-ole zydeco that makes even the most timid individuals get their feet a movin’.” You’ll be greeted at the door with beads and the bar will be serving up Hurricanes, Cajun food and King Cakes while supplies last! This is an all ages show. General Admission tickets are $20. The doors open at 6 p.m. Wave is located at 650 E 2nd St in downtown Wichita.

SOLD OUT Walnut River Brewing Company in El Dorado will host a crawfish/shrimp boil on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 4-9 p.m. This will be a ticketed event with 4 different serving times. Price is only $12 per ticket and gets you a generous portion of crawfish, shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes!

The Donut Whole will be serving King Cake Donuts in traditional Mardi Gras colors. There will be lucky babies inserted into random donuts and if you order a dozen donuts in advance, they guarantee one lucky baby in every dozen. Blue Moon Caterers is having their annual Red Bean’s Bayou Grill Memorial Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party on Tuesday, March 5, from 4 to 9 p.m. This is the one time of year you can enjoy some of your favorite dishes from the former Red Bean’s Bayou restaurant. They will have a buffet featuring: Firecracker Pasta, Pork Loin Thibideaux, Fried Pickles, Jambalya and more. Adults are $25 each. Kids 4 to 12 are $11 and children under 4 are FREE. Doo Dah Diner is celebrating their 6th Annual Fat Tuesday Cajun Feast. This is an all you can eat Cajun dinner from 5 to 8 p.m on Tuesday, March 5. Call the diner from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at (316) 558-3636 to make your reservations. Dinner is $30 for adults and kids under 12 are $15. This year’s party will take place at Doo Dah Diner East which is located at 1530 S. Webb Rd.
The Hyatt Regency Wichita will be serving a Mardi Gras inspired meal for both lunch and dinner. You will have your choice of traditional gumbo, crawfish chicken and sausage etouffe with Cajun black rice, crawfish boil or your choice of steak and choice of sides. Individual prices will be posted soon on the Facebook page. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Hyatt Regency Wichita is located at 400 W. Waterman St.

Mudbugs Cajun & Zydeco Band will be back at the Kansas Star Casino this year for Fat Tuesday. They will play at The Tin Lizard bar inside the casino. There is no cover for this show. It will start at 7 p.m. and go until 10 p.m. The Kansas Star Casino is located at 777 Kansas Star Drive in Mulvane, KS.
Central Standard Brewing is celebrating Fat Tuesday with Skinny Slim & the Fat Tuesday Brass Band for the second year in a row! In addition, The Flying Stove is cooking up a special Mardi Gras menu and Kinta Food & Cakes will be serving up King Cake. Food will be available from 5-8 p.m. Music starts at 8 p.m. There will be beads too! CSB is located at 156 S Greenwood St.
River City Brewing Company is hosting a Beer and Crawfish Boil. They brewed up a Hurricane inspired beer and are bringing in crawfish fresh from Louisiana just for the occasion.
The crawfish boil includes fresh crawfish from Louisiana Crawfish Company cooked with andouille sausage, smoked sausage, potatoes, corn, onions and mushrooms in a pot full of traditional Louisiana seasoning. they will also have homemade Cajun potato chips to get you started. They will also serve up hot fresh homemade beignets to finish off the meal. And for those who don’t love seafood, they will have a Cajun Pizza with andouille, chicken, peppers, tomatoes, onions and cheese. The cost is $25 per person and the party is from 4-9 p.m. River City Brewing Co. is located at 150 N Mosley St.
Chicken N Pickle will celebrate Fat Tuesday with a Shrimp Boil. Their game room will be transformed into New Orleans with food, music and fun. The shrimp boil will include shrimp, corn and potatoes. They will also have cocktails and Hurricane drinks for sale. Music will be provided by the Friends University Jazz Combo. Tickets are $25 through Eventbrite or $30 at the door. Chicken N Pickle is located at 1240 N. Greenwich Road.
St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita KS will host its annual Shrove Tuesday Oyster Dinner. The cost is $45 for all-you-can-eat or drink. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. at 3750 E. Douglas. Thanks to reader Henry N. for telling us about this event! He says the church has been hosting this event for around 80 years, and that the dinner will have an assortment of dishes, including fresh oyster on the half-shell, oyster chowder, fried oysters, beer + pie. Sounds yum!
