Need help with your Energy Bill? The Energy Bill assistance program is available to help with your rising energy bills this winter in Wichita. This can help restore or maintain electricity, natural gas or propane.

The Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a Kansas resident and need financial assistance with home energy costs.

Energy Bill Assistance

How to Qualify for LIEAP Assistance:

  • You must be responsible for paying the home heating and cooling costs.
  • Be a United States citizen or have been an eligible legally admitted person for permanent residence.
  • Demonstrate a recent history of qualifying payments toward the purchase of heating energy.
  • Meet specific income guidelines that vary according to household size and fuel type.
  • To qualify for LIEAP, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • ?An adult living at the address must be personally responsible for paying the heating costs at the current residence, payable either to the landlord, utility company, or fuel supplier.
  • ?The combined gross income (before deductions) of all persons living at the address may not exceed 150% of the federal poverty level according to the guidelines listed below:

Benefit Levels Vary According to the Following Factors:

  • Household income
  • Number of persons living at the address
  • Type of dwelling
  • Type of heating fuel

Create a self-service portal account or use your existing login to apply between January 20 March 31, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Tips for Using the DCF Self-Service Portal

  • ???To create a new account, you will need your date of birth and your Social Security number. 
  • If you forget your username or password, you may request to reset them. 
  • You will need to provide your date of birth and Social Security number to reset your username or password. 
  • If you previously set up a Self-Service Portal account and are unable to access it, you can create a new account with a new email address and link your case number(s).
