Wichita’s Delano neighborhood will be holding a Fall Fair October 6-8, 2017 and everyone is invited. The Delano Fall Fair will be a family event where you can step back in time and stroll down the streets of Delano amidst cowboys and saloon girls, see a Western parade and other entertainment, participate in activities, and get a sense of what life was like on the Old West frontier.
The fair is part of a year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail.
On Friday night, the fair begins with “Ghost Stories of Delano” from 6-9 p.m. Hear true stories of the colorful characters who walked the streets of Delano and Wichita. Storytellers and actors will bring to life the hardships and misfortunes of those who are gone but not forgotten. Hot Dogs, S’mores, Hot Chocolate & Apple Cider will be available.
On Saturday and Sunday, the streets of Delano will be filled with music, entertainment, craft and antique vendors, old-fashioned games and activities, a beard and moustache competition, corralled longhorns, horses, and other animals, and – of course – cowboy food.
On Saturday, one of the highlights will be a Western parade at high noon, and later, Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m., they’ll have Del Shields and Suzy Bogguss performing live on stage!
On Sunday, they’ll have Cowboy Church at 11 a.m., opening of the clock tower time capsule at noon, “Running of the Doves” (saloon girls are carried down the street by cowboys, and then they race back in their bloomers), an ice cream social at 2 p.m., and the Prairie Rose Rangers will perform live on stage from 3-5 p.m.
This will definitely be an event not to be missed for anyone who wants to experience our cowboy past in real life. Admission is FREE and the Delano Fall Fair will be a great event for all ages.
Where is Delano? The Delano District is located just west of the downtown Wichita area, across the river, mainly on Douglas Ave. between McLean and Seneca.
