I sure am glad I subscribed to Dining with Denise e-newsletter at Kansas.com. I received my copy yesterday and found out about a free fish fry at The Artichoke on Saturday evening.
This will be The Artichoke’s 27th annual Customer Appreciation Fish Fry. The restaurant at 811 N. Broadway is one of those places that is as much an initiation* to local culture as it is a dining experience. It’s probably best known for its sandwiches and live acoustic music on the weekends, which is why it’s fitting that the Fish Fry also doubles as a benefit for Kansas Acoustic Arts Association.
The event begins “around 4 or so” with the silent auction and open mic. (I also heard that there will be live music by Stage 5.) At 6 p.m. they’ll serve free catfish, hushpuppies, and red beans-n-rice for as long as it lasts.
You should expect it to be busy. You should also expect to bring your own chair, since dining outside might be necessary for this event. For more information, please see The Artichoke’s website.
*Hat tip to @MKWalsh. She’ll know what I mean! :)
