Sharing is caring!
The busy lifestyles that so many of us lead today often leave us with little or no time to cook or sit down for family meals, but a home-cooked meal provides a more balanced diet and family meal times provide the perfect opportunity to reconnect. Sitting across the table is where and when you can find out more about your children’s likes, dislikes and daily life.
Freezer cooking (aka once-a-month-cooking) will help you get healthy, balanced meals on the table quickly, and for a lot less than ordering take-out.
Once-a-month cooking is a different way to cook in which you prepare several main dishes at one time and store them in your freezer for future use.
During the Cook Once Workshop, County Extension Agent Denise Dias will teach you the basics, and you’ll get to participate in a mini-version of this method, taking home 10 entrees that will each feed a family of four. During the workshop, you’ll also have the option to purchase an official “Once-A-Month Cooking” cookbook.
The workshops will be held in the Teaching Kitchen of the Extension Center, 7001 W 21st St N, Wichita, KS. Cost for the workshop is $80 (that’s only $8 per main dish), and cookbooks are an additional $10.
The menu includes:
- Santa Fe Chicken
- Meat Loaf
- Pork Chops in Orange Sauce
- Stuffed Shells
- Texas-Style Lasagna
- Hamburgers Teriyaki and MORE
For more information or to sign up, call the Sedgwick County Extension Office, 660-0127, Monday – Wednesday. Sign up soon; space is limited to ten participants.
Three two-day Cook-Once Workshops are planned for:
May 31 (6-9 p.m.) and June 1 (8 a.m. to noon)
June 14 & 15
August 8 & 9

Thank you so much!
Has anyone done one of these before? Any idea what kind of menu it normally is? (I don’t like seafood). I cook for one, so I could really stretch these!
