Last week was the official opening of the new NOMAR International Plaza at 21st and Market. This weekend will mark the first in what will hopefully be many events at the new venue. Here are several events coming up at the end of this week:
On Thursday, May 5, there will be free Zumba for everyone in the plaza at 6:30 p.m.
Friday night, the Cinco de Mayo celebration begins at 6 p.m. A Santana tribute band, Little Smoke, will provide live music. There will be a beer garden and food vendors until 10 p.m.
Saturday morning, NOMAR Plaza Market will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Interested in being a vendor? It will be FREE to set up as a vendor next Saturday. Download the vendor application at nomarcdc and get it in before Monday of next week. They’re looking for unique or handmade items with a middle-eastern, Mexican, or Asian flair, like bread (especially bread), pottery, blankets, art, and other interesting products that fit the venue. Just as an example, one hot dog vendor sells the NOMAR dog. Space is limited, so fill out and submit your application soon.
Saturday night there will be a Mexican dance with a live band, “Imagin de Barrio,” along with food and beer vendors. The dance begins at 6 p.m.
All of these events are free and open to the public. It’s a good idea to bring lawn chairs. Parking may be a bit of a challenge, but I was told you can park along the streets in the neighborhoods, along Broadway, or in the parking lots of some of the vacant buildings nearby. (Use your best judgment and avoid any areas with No Parking signs, of course!) 🙂
