Side Pockets Annual “Barks, Brews & Running Shoes” .5K Beer Run is Back—And Yes, It’s Only 0.5K!
Wichita’s most lighthearted and laugh-out-loud “run” returns on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with the annual Side Pockets “Barks, Brews & Running Shoes” 0.5K Beer Run. That’s right—it’s just 0.5K, or about 1/3 of a mile (546 yards). Organizers promise it’ll take roughly seven minutes to complete, and that’s if participants walk! There’s no pressure to win, as everyone’s a champion at this event.
Runners (or strollers, flip-floppers, and four-legged friends) will stay refreshed thanks to an on-course water station and a celebratory beverage at the finish line. Finishers will receive a limited edition event T-shirt, a Runner’s Medal, and a “Bragging Rights” sticker that proudly proclaims their .5K achievement—perfect for one-upping those classic 5K bumper stickers.
This event proudly supports the Kansas Humane Society, so yes, the “Barks” in the title are just as important as the “Brews”! Participants will be helping local animals in need while enjoying some lighthearted fun.
To help beat the Kansas heat, organizers are adding plenty of shade this year to keep everyone cool and comfortable.

- 10:45 AM: Cross the finish line and rehydrate

All participants will enjoy post-race beverage options, including beer, vodka seltzers, and non-alcoholic refreshments courtesy of sponsors like Kona Brewing Company® and Nutrl Vodka™. Prize giveaways and sponsor swag are part of the fun, and attendance is capped at 300 runners, so early registration is recommended.
