All Wichita DAV’s have permanently closed. This makes me sad, and I will miss shopping at the DAV. Over the years, I have found many treasures, furniture, costumes, and unique finds. It’s too bad that it will no longer be around. I’m sure many other people feel the same way as me.
The Kentucky-based National Disabled American Veterans Nonprofit said they are closing and will never reopen in Wichita. It’s a huge loss to the Wichita community, especially since there are so few thrift stores in this area. The DAV provided an outlet for shoppers that was unique and affordable. They had a wide selection of gently used items that could not be found anywhere else.
The Wichita chapter lost its tax-exempt status due to not filing correctly. The national office learned about this IRS issue a month ago. They are saying they lost over 1 million dollars and not filing proper IRS forms is the reason for the closures.
Theses thrift stores were known for their unique selection of gently used items. The DAV helped those in need and provided them with quality goods at an affordable price.
Thank you for all of the memories, DAV!
