A Night of Latin Jazz at Friends University

Friends University will present its concert, A Night of Latin Jazz, with the Friends University Conjunto Latino jazz band and special guest, Tumbao, Friday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Conjunto Latino was established in 2020 and will be performing their first public concert of the season on the Sebits Auditorium stage. Embracing musical traditions and practices from the Caribbean, the concert will feature music from Tito Puente, Paquito D’Rivera and more.

“The group’s instrumentation is similar to that of the traditional big band, yet instead of a drum set, there is a team of percussionists that contribute their own rhythmic voice to an aggregate choir of percussion,” said Conjunto Latino director, Andrew Slater.

Sharing the stage with Conjunto Latino is the local professional salsa band, Tumbao. Well-known in the Wichita area for their red-hot music, Tumbao transports audience members across seas with their Puerto Rican influenced tunes. The group is led by Friends University alumnus, Miguel Santana Morales and adjunct professor, John Goering.

Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students and seniors (55+) at friends.edu/fineartstickets.

The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan.
