Looking for a free way to enjoy your neighborhood, meet your neighbors, and build community? Mark your calendar for Neighborhood Night Out on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from roughly 5 to 9 p.m. It’s an annual event hosted by residents all across Wichita. It’s an evening of block parties, potlucks, and backyard fun organized right in your neighborhood.
What Is Neighborhood Night Out?
This is your chance to meet new neighbors and your local police, fire department teammates, and city leaders in a relaxed, friendly setting. Events can vary from small get-togethers on a cul-de-sac to larger gatherings in neighborhood parks. Everything is free and hosted by people in your community.
How to Join or Host a Party
Register by Tuesday, July 22 via the City of Wichita website to participate and access free resources. Like barricades for safe street closure, or even park shelter reservations (city waives fees for NNO). No theme required—think potlucks, ice cream socials, block parties, or simple neighborhood meetups. Blocks that want to close off the street must submit a petition signed by at least two-thirds of residents, and can only do so for up to five hours during the approved timeframe.
A great way to see city and neighborhood staff in person—Wichita Police and Fire often make the rounds at registered events.
Not Hosting? No Problem
If your block isn’t hosting, you can still join a registered party in another part of the city. It’s a great way to connect beyond your street and still enjoy the festivities.
