A while back the Wichita City Councle approved some new fireworks ordinances. The most significant change is that aerial fireworks are NOW allowed in the city from July 3-5 from 10 a.m. to midnight.

• Allowed only July 3 – July 5
• May be used from 10:00 am to midnight
Firework Safety Tips
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks
• Older children should only use fireworks with close adult supervision
• Never use fireworks while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• Wear protective eyewear when lighting fireworks or watching nearby
• Never hold a lit firework in your hand
• Never use fireworks indoors
• Keep fireworks away from people, homes, vehicles, and flammable materials
• Never point or throw fireworks at another person
• Light only one firework at a time
• Move a safe distance away after lighting
• Never light fireworks in a container
• Do not relight malfunctioning fireworks
• Soak used and unused fireworks in water before throwing them away
• Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fire
Fireworks Violations
Violating Wichita’s fireworks ordinance can result in significant fines:
• First offense: $1,000 fine and/or 100 hours of community service, plus court costs
• Second offense: $1,500 fine
• Third offense: $2,000 fine
Enforcement & Reporting
• Wichita Police and Wichita Fire Department will patrol throughout fireworks season
• Adults can be cited for violations committed by juveniles
• Property owners and occupants are responsible for violations on their property
• Increased enforcement will focus on issuing citations
