Free parking this weekend for Music Theatre of Wichita performances

Sharing is caring!

Photo of new paystation at Century II parking lot in downtown WichitaHere’s a good deal. If you’re heading out to see Music Theater of Wichita’s Spamalot this weekend, you get FREE parking.

Parking will be free this weekend during all Music Theatre of Wichita performances of “Monty Python’s Spamalot” starting one hour before the show.

With the start of the Music Theatre of Wichita season, the City has seen an increase of instances of late arrivals or people arriving at one time for a performance or event. This has created longer lines at the pay stations. The temporary suspension of the pay stations will give the City and Music Theatre of Wichita time to develop a plan to better serve theater patrons.

In April, City officials announced a three-month parking test project to make downtown parking more convenient through the use of centralized pay stations in the lot east of Century II Expo Hall and south of the Central Library. The announcement of free parking is part of the City’s ongoing campaign to educate visitors about the change.

Four new pay stations – located near the north entrances to the lot – are equipped to accept both coins and debit and credit cards. The cost for parking remains the same daily between 8 a.m.-11 p.m.: ten cents for a half-hour, 25 cents for two hours and $1.25 for 10 hours.

Informational signs are posted at the north parking lot entrances and by the pay stations to help people get acquainted with the new parking system.

1. Before you leave your parked car, make note of your space number.
2. Walk up to any one of the four pay stations.
3. Follow the instructions on the pay station screens: Select the amount of time you wish to pay for, follow the prompt to enter your space number and insert payment. (Only coins and credit cards are accepted; no dollar bills.)
4. Keep the printed receipt for your records. (You do not need to take it back to your car.)

The City of Wichita has contracted with its current parking management company, The Car Park, to oversee the temporary transition from meters to parking stations.
