Spring into the Arts Festival in Newton

The 2nd annual Spring Into the Arts festival will be held in Newton this month four days of free and affordable events that celebrate the visual and performing arts.

Here’s the short list of activities and events you and your family can enjoy:

The festival begins Thursday, April 23 with Art and Music in the Heart of Newton from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the downtown area. Admission is free, and many downtown businesses will be extending their hours of operation for the evening.

Events on Thursday

Art and Music in the Heart of Newton, 6-8 p.m. Special demonstrations and performances on Main Street. Many downtown businesses will extend their hours of operation for the evening.

The Wizard of Oz, 7:30 p.m., at the historic Newton Fox Theatre. Tickets are just $5 and will be available at the door.

Events on Friday

Apple Blossom Festival, 5-8 p.m., at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.  A fun event for all ages, featuring music, dance, and theater performances, local vendors, antique cars, carriage rides, KidFest attractions, and a barbecue dinner. Admission to the Apple Blossom Festival is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Events on Saturday

Prairiestock Local Music Festival and FloraKansas Plant Sale, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Dyck Arboretum, 177 W. Hickory in Hesston. An all-day music festival showcasing a variety of genres including acoustic guitar, Celtic, folk, Indie rock, and bluegrass. Performances are scheduled hourly from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children.

Barn Quilt Painting Class, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., at Carriage Factory Art Gallery. Limited space is available for the workshop, so registration is necessary. Workshop is $50 and includes supplies. Reserve your spot by calling 284-2749 or emailing director@carriagefactoryartgallery.com

Fusion: Music & History, 2-4 p.m., inside the historic Warkentin House.Chamber musicians will preview the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra’s 20th anniversary Summer Music Concert with live performances, and the home will be open for free tours.

Events on Sunday 

Sunday Afternoon at the Museum, 2 p.m., at the Kauffman Museum. An Earth Day celebration. Free admission!

Newton Community Children’s Choir, 4 p.m., at Shalom Mennonite Church, 800 E. 1st Street in Newton. Spring concert, free admission!

Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus, 7 p.m., at Bethel College Memorial Hall. Free admission!
