Happy Birthday, Exploration Place! $5 Admission for Everyone

Exploration Place place is celebrating its 15th birthday with discounted admission and special activities for the weekend of Saturday, April 11 from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday, April 12, from 1-5 p.m.. Admission is just $5 per person per day and includes the traveling exhibit Wildlife Rescue, the regular EP exhibits, and special activities. You’ll also get 15% off Explore Store purchases, concessions, and memberships!

Also, on Saturday morning, April 11, there’s a FREE event in the Boeing Dome Theater from 10 a.m. to noon Museum admission is not required. Meet and talk with a severe weather safety expert for Storm Fury on the Plains – a topic that seems particularly appropriate after the recent storm. Examine the basics of thunderstorm development, storm structure, and cloud identification, and learn the correct way to report storm information and how to follow basic severe weather safety. After the presentation, you can stay for a showing of Wildest Weather in the Solar System for just $5.

Saturday, April 11*
10 a.m. – Noon Learn severe weather safety tips from Chance Hayes, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, National Weather Service – Wichita (Free admission for this program only, located in dome theater)
1 – 4 p.m. Hands-on activities throughout the museum
1 p.m. Chivalry for Children show – Kemper Creative Learning Studio
2 p.m. Free cake and photos with Chirpie and sing “Happy Birthday” (limited cake quantity)
2:30 p.m. Science2000 Live Science Show – Kemper Creative Learning Studio
3:30 p.m. Chivalry for Children show – Kemper Creative Learning Studio

Sunday, April 12*
1 – 5 p.m. Hands-on activities throughout the museum
1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Science2000 Live Science Show in the Kemper Creative Learning Studio. Compare today’s science from the year 2000.

Some of the other special activities planned for the birthday bash include:

  • Master your own bubble wand, cut a bubble in half and form a bubble inside another.
  • Play games from years past with the Society of Creative Anachronism.
  • Make your own geometric shapes such as a toroid.
  • Build a windmill.
  • Be a canvas with face painting.
  • Flip for tricks from Kansas Ringleaders Clown Alley.
  • Take home sunflower seed packets from Johnson’s Garden Centers. (limited quantity)
