It’s fiesta time! Grocery stores and markets have all the ingredients to make your own Cinco de Mayo party on the cheap. Most of these prices will only be good through Saturday, so a quick run to the store tonight or tomorrow morning is in order if you want to snag the deals.
Aldi has avocados AND mangoes on sale for 29¢ each and strawberries for 99¢ per pound! That will make for some good homemade guacamole, mango salsa, and perhaps some delicious non-alcoholic strawberry margaritas.
Dillons has 2-liter 7-Up products (another ingredient those margaritas) on sale for 88¢ through Saturday, May 5. Dillons also beats Aldi’s price this week on Roma tomatoes at only 88¢ per pound (and that price goes for jalapenos, too). (Leekers/Checkers has them Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for 50¢ pound!)
Cox Farm has Vidalia onions for only 59¢ a pound to add to that salsa. (Dillons price this week is 79¢/lb.)
Leekers (also known as Checkers) has some great deals on meat this week. My trick for keeping grocery tab low is to try to find meat close to my target price of $2 per lb. These all meet that requirement! They’ve got ground beef in a 5 lb. chub for $1.99, beef brisket for $2.29 per lb., pork Boston roast for $1.69 lb. (slow-cooker carnitas), along with some other fairly good prices. They also have iceberg lettuce for 79¢ and large Grade A eggs for 79¢.
Remember to look for coupons in the Coupon Center before you run to the store. If you’re not a fan of clipping, then try SavingStar and Cellfire digital coupons.
I’ve been finding some other good, cheap Cinco de Mayo recipes and stashing them on Pinterest.

Dillon’s also has whole seedless watermelons for $4.88. Just cut into one and it tastes really good! When I was at Walmart earlier this week, I think they were $5.98 there.
And those organic strawberries at Dillon’s are really good.
Oh yeah. Those are very good prices for organic.
Dillon’s has organic strawberries for $2.99, which is a good price for organic. They also have Private Selection organic canned beans for $1.00 each, which is a good deal because the regular price is around $1.85 can.
Whoops – avocados, not avacados! *embarassing* 🙂
