The Living on the Cheap website is giving away a FREE Motorola DEFY XT smartphone along with unlimited voice, text and data for six months from Republic Wireless.
This is an interesting wireless service. Republic has a $19 per month “all you can use” smartphone plan with no contract and apparently with no “gotchas.” The way they’re doing it is by making use of two types of networks – public wifi hotspots and, as a backup when wifi isn’t available, the Sprint network. I haven’t tried it, but a Living on the Cheap member has. Here’s his review.

The FREE smartphone is no slacker either. It’s apparently dustproof, water-resistant, and has a scratch-resistant display. (Sounds like a good smartphone for kids or construction workers.)
