The Friends University Sinfonietta Orchestra, formally known as the Chamber Orchestra, will present its Fall Concert Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. The orchestra’s concert will feature new faculty percussionist Andrew Slater on vibraphone along with his student Marleah Mullen on marimba in a piece titled Ambient Music, by Kees Schoonenbeek. Ambient music, as well as being the title of the piece, is a genre of music that emphasizes tone and atmosphere rather than traditional musical structure or rhythm. This piece was originally written for piano and strings.
“We hope our use of vibraphone and marimba, instead of piano, adds to this genre of tone color and atmosphere,” said Sinfonietta director, Kay Buskirk.
Tickets are FREE, and the concert is open to the public. Guests are invited to stay for the free reception following the concert.
The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kansas.
