Bike Walk Wichita is a local non-profit organization that promotes safe active transportation in Wichita and South Central Kansas.
They host several events throughout the year that are open to the public, so feel free to join in the fun, or see the bike routes/bike paths on their website to find places to ride.
Free (or inexpensive) Bike/Walk Wichita events
They host several events or activities throughout the year that are open to anyone who would like to participate. Here are some of the upcoming Bike/Walk Wichita events on the schedule:
Wednesday, May 4 – Sedgwick County Bike Month Proclamation at 9 a.m. at the Sedgwick County Courthouse, 3rd floor. Meet at 8:45 a.m. to allow for security. Checkout the Facebook event page here.
Wednesday, May 4 – Memorial Bench Dedication from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Linear Park, Goddard. Optional 12-20 road or gravel bike ride at 9 a.m., potluck (drinks and tableware provided) at Noon at the Pavilion, including a time of sharing. At 1 p.m., enjoy a 1-mile walk / bike ride to the benches for ribbon cutting.
Wednesdays through May – Walking Wednesdays 6 p.m. Free walks with others around town at interesting locations.
Thursdays, April 14 – May 26 – Evergreen Thur Walk / Jueves de Caminar from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., meet at the Evergreen Library for this casual neighborhood walk.
2022 Walking Book Club will meet monthly for a walk and talk at the Great Plains Nature Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. January – May and October – December. June – September, the club meets from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. The books for each month are already listed for the whole year on their Facebook Event.
Bicycling Classes
Bike Walk Wichita also offers a variety of bicycling classes throughout the year, for everyone from beginner to advanced riders. Here is just a sample of the classes they make available:

Saturday, May 15 – Craft Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Drop by to help prep bike decorations and other crafty fun for their upcoming community events. Bring any extra empty t.p. or paper towel rolls you have, along with stickers and tissue paper. Respond and get more info here
Sunday, May 16 – Evergreen Bike Jam at 1:30 p.m. at Evergreen Park Rec Center, 2700 N. Woodland Street in Wichita. Free event designed to give neighborhood residents information and a fun activity; bring your bike and ride the bike safety course, visit the bike decorating station, and ride through the neighborhood. Sunday, May 16 – Urban Hike: Evergreen at 2:30 p.m. Meet at the Evergreen Rec Center and explore the art, history, and culture of the neighborhood during this urban hike. Free. More info
Friday, May 21 – Bike to Lunch Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Celebrate Bike to Work Day with Bike/Walk Wichita and Bike Month ICT at the courtyard in Old Town, 200 N. Mosley St. Ride your bike in for a free lunch of Jimmy Johns sandwiches and chips, have a cookie, and enjoy a cup of coffee while browsing resource booths including KDOT and Bike/Walk Wichita. All while supplies last, of course. If you didn’t bike to work that day, consider renting a bike from one of the Bike Share ICT downtown stations so you can still enjoy the festivities. More info
Sunday, May 23 – Safe City Cycling class from 1-4:30 p.m. at BWW HQ, 131 S. Laura St. in Wichita. Sign up in advance for the $5 per person Bike Month special discount and do parking lot drills and then take your new skills to the road for a ride together.
Tuesday, June 22 – Sculpture Glow at 6 p.m. at Ulrich Museum of Art on WSU campus. Free
