Get ready for an evening of culture, community, and celebration! The Blessing the Culture 2025–2026 Schools Out Powwow will take place on April 25, 2026, from 2:00pm-9:00pm, bringing together students, families, and community members for a vibrant cultural gathering. Hosted through a collaboration between Wichita State University’s Indigenous Student Collective and the Wichita Public Schools Title VI Native American Indian Education Program, this free community powwow celebrates Native culture while uplifting the voices and leadership of Native youth.
Title VI students are Native American students enrolled in Wichita Public Schools who participate in the district’s federally funded Indian Education program. The program supports students’ unique academic needs while also creating opportunities for cultural learning, identity development, and community connection. Members of the Indigenous Student Collective at Wichita State University are Native college students dedicated to supporting Indigenous visibility, community engagement, and cultural education on campus and beyond.
Together, these students help plan and bring the powwow to life. Powwows are important cultural gatherings for many Native American communities that bring people together through traditional dance, music, regalia, food, and storytelling. The Blessing the Culture Powwow is an opportunity to celebrate the end of the school year while honoring Indigenous traditions and the strength of Native communities. Community members are invited to experience the beauty and energy of powwow dancing, hear the powerful songs of the drum groups, and learn more about Native cultures. The event welcomes everyone, Native and non-Native alike, to come together in a spirit of respect, learning, and celebration.
