“Go Green to Save Green” is the theme of the 3rd annual Regional Energy and Sustainability Summit and Fair at the Wichita State University Metroplex January 28 and 29, 2011.
The Saturday (January 29) “Community Day” is free and will include information, giveaways, and drawings for prizes like a rain barrel, a reel lawn mower and a cordless edger and trimmer. An optional luncheon is available by reservation for $10 that includes a presentation about Greensburg and an awards ceremony.
Several different do-it-yourself energy-efficiency and sustainability demonstrations on Saturday will include:
- Home energy audits and energy efficiency gadgets
- Rain barrels and gardens, backyard vegetable gardening, sustainable lawns and neighborhood ponds
- Home repair and window renovations and information on area recycling and household hazardous waste disposal.
You can also purchase rain barrels at the event for $25 (limit of 2 per household). The first 300 attendees over 18 years of age will receive an energy efficient or sustainable product.
The Friday session will focus on business-related issues and runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost on Friday is $65, including a luncheon.
