The 2018 Support Local Law Enforcement Community Parade was scheduled for last month, but wouldn’t you know it – we got snow in April! The parade will be held on May 12 (Mothers Day Weekend) in downtown Wichita!
The parade celebrates and continues to build the relationship between the citizens of Wichita and the law enforcement officers who serve them. A community block party will follow the parade again this year.
Law Enforcement Parade Route
The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Memorial at 500 N. Main Street.
The parade route starts at Central and Main in front of the Law Enforcement Memorial and will travel south to 1st Street. At 1st Street, the parade will turn to the right (west) onto 1st Street and proceed one block west to Water Street. The parade route will then proceed right (north) on Water Street to 3rd Street where everyone will disband and either drive away or proceed to their vehicles on foot. There are also several parking lots around the area as well. The official end of the parade is where it turns at the intersection of 1st Street and Main Street. – Support Local Law Enforcement Parade event page
Community Block Party
A community block party starts immediately after the parade at 11 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. with food trucks, live music, children’s activities, and other fun, including a donut-eating contest:
The block party will be held in the WaterWalk area, which is directly north of Kellogg and west of Main Street. (Near Gander Mountain, the Wichita Boathouse, the WaterWalk building, etc.)
Where to find parking
During parades, some of the parking lots near Century II may be closed off – or partially closed – or the streets that access them may be closed for the parade. Arrive early for the best selection of parking places.
A few nearby lots include the Gander Mountain parking garage (free), and the metered spaces on William Street near the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. (The parking meters only took quarters the last time we used them, so be sure to bring a supply… we don’t want to get a ticket, lol!)
Or interrogated! This goofy skit is from a previous year’s parade promo, but you probably want to see it anyway. 🙂
