Be sure to mark your calendars for OK Kids Day at OJ Watson Park in early April!
This fun outdoor event is yet another awesome entry in the category of Free Stuff for Kids to Do in Wichita.
OK Kids stands for Outdoor Kansas for Kids. Its mission is to provide multiple outdoor recreation opportunities for Kansas youth with adult partnering and mentoring to encourage outdoor recreational opportunities, and promote and provide an active lifestyle as an alternative to sedentary activities.
OK Kids Day events are typically held at various parks throughout Kansas. The events are free and open to all kids.
At the OJ Watson Park OK Kids Day, kids ages 5 to 12 years will enjoy a morning of free outdoor fun on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
From 9 a.m. to noon, kids can do things like kayaking, archery, fishing clinics, and more – all for free!
Fishing poles and bait are usually provided, but there will only be so many to go around so get to the park early and make sure you register as soon as you get there.
There will also be a limited supply of free T-shirts, hot dogs for the kids, and prizes to be given away while they last.
If you’d like to make a day of it, bring a little spending money. Beginning at noon, Watson Park goes back to its regular paid concessions, pony and train rides, mini golf, and pedal boats, each for a small fee.
I’m thinking parents might want to bring along some lawn chairs, water, sunscreen, and most certainly a camera!
For more information, to ask questions, or to find out about any possible changes or weather-related cancellations, be sure to check out the OJ Watson Park Facebook event page or see the Wichita Park and Recreation Activities Guide.
