Veterans Day Freebies and Deals for Wichita

4th of July, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, American flagVeterans and active-duty members of the U.S. military are worthy of our respect and gratitude every day, but on Veterans Day we can do one better and take them out for a free meal, attend an event that honors them, visit one of the Wichita attractions that offer free admission on Veterans Day, or share this list of discounts to save them a few bucks.

Here is a list of Veterans Day freebies and deals available in the Wichita area, and more will be added through the week. (Please be prepared to show proof of service if requested.)

Although I’ve confirmed these deals nationally, participation may vary at each location. Call ahead if you have any doubt. And thank you for your service!

**Veterans Day Events in Wichita

Wichita Veterans Day Parade Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration in Kennedy Plaza.

Flag-raising and Veterans Day celebration at Via-Christi 929 N. St. Francis. Monday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the front entrance. There will be a brief ceremony which will include posting of the colors by the West High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps., followed by a reception at the hospital.

**Veterans Day Restaurant Deals

Chick-fil-A Wichita Both Wichita Chick-fil-A locations are offering a free Chick-fil-A Sandwich for veterans and military members on Veterans Day, November 11, with a military ID.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard This hometown Wichita company is known for its support of WWII veterans, and on Veterans Day it will continue that tradition. Here’s what they told me today: “There is no way to appropriately thank our veterans and active-duty military personnel for everything they have sacrificed for our country. As a small token of appreciation, we will honor all veterans and active-duty military personnel by giving them free menu item gift cards on Veteran’s Day to use whenever they choose.”

Texas Roadhouse Active-duty, former, or retired military members can get a free meal from a special menu at Texas Roadhouse on Veterans Day, November 11, 2013. Please show proof of service. The offer is valid for dine-in only, and doesn’t include alcohol.

Red Robin In honor of Veterans Day, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (Red Robin)* is giving away one free Tavern Double burger to each veteran or active duty military guest who shows their military ID, proof of service or who are in military uniform on Monday, Nov. 11.

Outback Steakhouse is honoring active and veteran military with a valid ID by giving them a free Bloomin’ Onion and a beverage on Monday, November 11, 2013. Additionally, all service members will receive 10% off their meals Nov. 12 through Dec. 31 in what they call the “Military Mates” program.

Chili’s Veterans and active duty military will get to choose from one of eight free entrées at Chili’s all day on Monday, November 11, 2013. Entrée choices will include the Oldtimer burger with cheese, Chicken Crispers, Soup & Salad Combo, Margarita Chicken, Full Flatbread, Pizza, Classic Turkey Sandwich, Lighter Choices Grilled Chicken Salad. Lunch combos during lunch hours. Proof of military service required.

Hooters Hooters is showing its gratitude for veterans and active duty military personnel this Veterans Day. On Monday, Nov. 11, Hooters invites all veterans and current servicemen and women to enjoy a free meal, up to $10.99 in value with any drink purchase, by presenting a military ID or proof of service at any Hooters location across the country.

Golden Corral will once again offer a free meal to all U.S. veterans and active-duty military on Monday, November 11, 2013. Over the past 12 years, Golden Corral restaurants have served over 3.7 million free ‘thank you’ meals to our heroes in the military!

Olive Garden Olive Garden On Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013, all veterans and current service members get a free meal from a special menu at Olive Garden. Family members dining with them will also receive 10% off their meal. And current members of the military and dependents with proof of service or military dependent ID will receive 10% off their meals throughout the month of November, excluding alcohol, tax, and gratuity.

Red Lobster Veterans and those currently serving in the military can choose a complimentary appetizer from a special list of 10 options November 11-14, 2013.

Krispy Kreme Present your military ID or wear your uniform on Veteran’s Day to receive a free doughnut and small coffee on November 11, 2013 at Wichita’s Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store at 7777 E. Central. (See the full list of participating stores: http://www.krispykreme.com/VeteransDay) No purchase or coupon is necessary, and of course there is a limit of one offer per guest per visit. It is valid in-store only (not valid at the drive-thru or at grocery or convenience stores). You pay any applicable sales tax.

On the Border is saying “Thank You” with a free “Create Your Own Combo menu” for all veterans and active-duty military on Monday, November 11, 2013. The menu is an OTB bestseller with more than 150 possible dinner combinations. To receive the free meal, guests will need to provide proof of military service, which include U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

In addition, On The Border will donate 15% of your purchase price to CARRY THE LOAD, a non-profit organization that is restoring the meaning of Memorial Day by assisting and honoring our fallen heroes, veterans, active duty military, firefighters, law enforcement and rescue personnel, and their families, when you bring in the give-back flyer on Veterans Day.

TGI Friday’s As a token of its appreciation, T.G.I. Friday’s is inviting veterans and active-duty military to have lunch on them Monday, November 11, 2013 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The offer is valid on select menu items and does not include a beverage unless an eligible lunch combo is ordered. Proof of military service is required. Check with your local restaurant for participation and details.

Applebees Veterans and active duty military enjoy a free Applebee’s signature entree during business hours on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11 at participating locations. Beverage and gratuity not included. Proof of military service is required.

Carrabba’s will honor Veterans and Active Military with a FREE appetizer of their choice on November 9-11, 2013 in celebration of Veterans Day, no purchase necessary. Proof of service required.

Starbucks On Veterans Day 2013, participating U.S. company-owned Starbucks stores will give a free tall brewed coffee for veterans, active duty military and their spouses. (Thanks to KFDI’s Kellie Blog for the tip.)

**FREE Admission to Wichita Attractions

Exploration Place Admission will be FREE for ALL on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Experience Exploration Place exhibits for free, including the current traveling exhibit Mindbender Mansion. Free exhibit admission only does NOT include dome theater and MiniGolf. Also please note that it is free on Sunday, not free on Monday (although they will be open on Monday as usual).

Active and retired members of the military will also receive a 10% discount at the Explore Store, Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium, MiniGolf and Snack Bar by showing their military ID.

Museum of World Treasures On Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, all USA veterans and active duty military will receive free admission to the Museum of World Treasures. There will be a special reception honoring WWII veteran Sgt. Cyril Leuelling at 3 p.m. the same day.

Kansas Cosmosphere Veterans get free admission to any Cosmosphere show or exhibit with a paying companion on Monday, November 11, 2013.

**More Veterans Day discounts

Great Clips On Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, customers who come in for a haircut at any U.S. Great Clips salon will receive a free haircut card to give to an active/inactive/retired military member of any branch, including the National Guard. Military members can also come in on Veterans Day for a free haircut or to pick up a free haircut card to use, with proof of service, any day before Dec. 31, 2013.

Free Bed and Breakfast Stays for Veterans Availability is limited for this freebie, but B&Bs throughout the U.S. are offering free night stays to U.S. military veterans on November 11, 2013. Some have additional discounts. Here is a list of participating B&Bs in Kansas.

Free Car Wash for active-duty military and veterans at two Green Lantern and three Zips car wash locations in Wichita is provided through a program called Grace for Vets.

Free Entrance to National Parks Although 268 of our national parks never charge an entrance fee, the remaining 133 parks will have free admission on Veterans Day weekend.

Dollar General is offering 11% off on Monday, November 11, 2013. To get the discount online, use the promo code OURHEROES. The discount is also valid in stores, and no promo code or coupon is required.
