Veterans Day Freebies and Deals for Wichita

4th of July, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, American flagVeterans and active-duty members of the U.S. military are worthy of our respect and gratitude every day, but on Veterans Day we can do one better and take them out for a free meal, attend an event that honors them, visit one of the Wichita attractions that offer free admission on Veterans Day, or share this list of discounts to save them a few bucks.

Here is a list of Veterans Day freebies and deals available in the Wichita area, and more will be added through the week. (Please be prepared to show proof of service if requested.)

Although I’ve confirmed these deals nationally, participation may vary at each location. Call ahead if you have any doubt. And thank you for your service!

**Veterans Day Events in Wichita

Boots to Business: Reboot Friday, November 6, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A one-day introduction to entrepreneurship for veterans, Reboot includes an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge of the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources. A boxed lunch will be provided for all registered attendees. See the link for more details. 

Wichita Veterans Day Parade Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by a memorabilia display, family activities and more in WaterWalk Plaza until 2 p.m. Starts at Central and Main and continues south past the WaterWalk complex.

Exploration Place is free for everyone Sunday, November 8, from noon to 5 p.m. Active and retired members of the military will also receive a 10% discount at the Explore Store, Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium and Snack Bar by showing their military ID.

Wichita JROTC Veterans Celebration On Monday, November 9 at 10 a.m., a  celebration with patriotic music from the South High band and Madrigal singers and over 2000 Wichita JROTC cadets in formation will be held in the Expo Hall of Century II. Try to make it if you can – it’s sure to be impressive and a wonderful celebration of our nation’s veterans.

Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum Veterans and their guests can take advantage of FREE admission at the museum Wednesday, November 11, 2015. See the link for more details.

Museum of World Treasures Active-duty military and veterans get free admission on Wednesday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sedgwick County Zoo will offer free admission to veterans and active-duty military members with valid ID or other proof of service on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015.

**Veterans Day Restaurant Deals

Applebees Veterans and active duty military enjoy a free meal from a limited menu at Applebee’s during business hours on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 at participating locations. Valid for dine-in only; beverage and gratuity not included. Proof of military service is required. In addition to the free meals, Applebees has expanded its Thank You Movement program to help veterans and active duty in need, and also provides a way for you to say thank you to veterans. Carrabba’s Free appetizer (customer’s choice) with military ID or uniform from November 9 to November 15, 2015.

Chick-fil-A Both Wichita locations and the Derby Chick-fil-A will be honoring active military and veterans again with a FREE Chick-fil-A sandwich all day on Veterans Day. Just show proof of service.

Chili’s Veterans and active military will receive a free entree from among eight different choices! See link for more details.

Chuck E. Cheese Shared by Jason: Free 1 topping individual thin and crispy pizza on Wednesday November 11th to veterans and active military. At the Wichita Kansas location only- giving 10% discount off on any order made by veteran or active military on November 11th. Must show valid military identification on both offers.

Cracker Barrel Veterans will receive a complimentary Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake dessert on November 11, 2015, and other guest can help support troops transitioning back to civilian life by purchasing the dessert or select items from the Old Country Store. 10% of the sales price of those items will be donated to  the USO Transition 360 Alliance.

Denny’s Active, inactive, and retired military can dine in at Denny’s on Veterans Day from 5 a.m. until noon and have a free Build-Your-Own Grand Slam breakfast.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard Any veteran or active-duty military personnel who visits Freddy’s on Veterans Day will receive a card good for a free menu item. The card is valid through November 30. The card can only be received by a veteran/military personnel, but can be redeemed by anyone (i.e. the veteran could give the card to someone else to use).

Golden Corral will once again offer a free dinner buffet and beverage to all U.S. veterans and active-duty military on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Over the past 14 years, Golden Corral restaurants have served more than 4 million free ‘thank you’ meals to our heroes in the military!

Hooters On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Hooters invites all veterans and active-duty military to enjoy one of five different menu items. Proof of service is required.

IHOP At participating restaurants, veterans and active-duty military can receive a free order of Red, White, and Blue pancakes with proof of service on November 11, 2015. You should be extra careful to confirm participation with your nearest IHOP, however, since in the past some of our local IHOPs didn’t participate in various national promotions. Krispy Kreme Veterans and active military personnel will get a free doughnut and a small doughnut at Krispy Kreme on Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 5 a.m. Proof of service is not required. This offer is only good at participating Krispy Kreme locations (i.e. not at grocery stores that carry their doughnuts), and isn’t valid in drive-through. No purchase necessary!

La Mars Donuts Veterans and active military receive a free donut with a hole and 12 oz. coffee on November 11, 2015. Wichita has three La Mars locations (W. 21st, E. Harry, and N. Rock)

Little Caesar’s United States Armed Forces veterans and active military can get a free $5 Hot-n-Ready lunch combo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at participating stores this Veterans Day. The combo includes four slices of Detroit-style Deep!Deep! dish pizza and a 20 oz. Pepsi product.

Northrock DQ Grill & Chill 3248 N Rock Rd. FREE 5-Buck Lunch for all veterans from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 11, 2015.

Olive Garden On Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, Olive Garden restaurants will offer a free entrée from a special menu to active-duty military and military veterans with proof of military service. And family members dining with them receive 10% off their meals! The entrée is served with unlimited soup or salad and warm, garlic breadsticks. Thanks, Jody!

On the Border is saying thank you with a free “Create Your Own Combo” menu for all veterans and active-duty military on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt All veterans and active-duty military personnel can receive a free cup of froyo, up to 11 ounces, on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11. To claim the offer, customers should provide proof of military service, such as a military ID card, uniform photo, honors, badges, or come dressed in their military uniform.

Outback Steakhouse Free Bloomin’ Onion and non-alcoholic beverage for military personnel with military ID on November 11, 2015. Also, from November 12 to December 31, 2015, Outback’s Military Mates special is available: Military personnel and families receive 15% off their entire check.

Red Lobster Veterans and those currently serving in the military can choose a complimentary appetizer from a special list of 11 options, or a complimentary dessert from among five different options November 09-12, 2015.

Red Robin Yum. Free Double Tavern Burger and Endless Steak Fries for veterans and military on Veterans Day.

Starbucks On Veterans Day, November 11, participating Starbucks locations in the U.S. will offer a free tall (12 fl. oz.) brewed coffee to veterans, active duty service members and military spouses. Use the Starbucks locator to call ahead and see if your nearest shop is participating. Starbucks has other initiatives to support veterans as well.

For truck drivers: TA and Petro On the road for Veterans Day? On November 11, anyone who is a veteran of the armed forces and holds a CDL can receive a complimentary meal of their choice (up to a $15 value) at any of nearly 220 participating Iron Skillet®, Country Pride® and other full-service, home-style restaurants within TA and Petro Stopping Centers by simply showing proof of service to their server prior to ordering their meal. Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Retired ID Card; Veterans Organization Card; Photograph in uniform; DD214; or Citation or Commendation.

Twin Peaks All military men and women (past or present) receive a free menu item from the Veterans Day Appreciation Menu.

**Services and Retail Deals for Veterans Day

AARP For a limited time, veterans save 20% on membership dues.

Bed, Bath and Beyond Through November 11, 2014, all active duty, DOD, Reserves, Guard, retirees, veterans, and military spouses will receive 20% off their purchases in the store. U.S. Military ID is required to get the discount. See the link for details.

FREE Car Washes Green Lantern, Zips, and two Casey’s Express Wash locations in Wichita will once again give free car washes to veterans and active-duty military on November 11, 2015. No proof of service is needed – just let them know you are a veteran.

Great Clips On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2015, customers who get a haircut at any U.S. Great Clips salon will receive a free haircut card to give as a thank you to an active, inactive, or retired military member of any branch, including the National Guard. Military members can also come in on Veterans Day for a free haircut or to pick up a free haircut card to use, with proof of service, any day through Dec. 31, 2015.

Joanne’s Military service members and eligible family members receive 10% off purchases every day with ID. Starting Thursday, Nov. 5, Joann’s will be having a Veterans Day sale with a 20% off coupon. I think this will be valid for everyone, but check the link to be sure.

JCPenney All current and former military personnel and family members of active duty, reserves, guard, and retirees can use this coupon for an extra 5% off in JCPenney stores, Nov. 4-11, 2015. The savings can be combined with other offers.

Lowes All veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 can receive a 10% discount on personal purchases at Lowes stores. There are some restrictions; for example, the discount is not available at, on previous purchases, on the purchase of gift cards, or on other promotions or discounts. National Parks Although most of our 408 national parks never charge an entrance fee, the 127 parks that do normally charge a fee will have free admission for everyone on Veterans Day.

Red Roof Inn Veterans save 15% off on a stay during the month of November.

Sleep Number Save $500 to $700 on select Sleep Number beds through Nov. 15, 2015. Wichita has two Sleep Number locations.
