Wichita WATER CenterCool off with a hike along the creek with other families during the g2gOutside Creek Hike on Tuesday evening, July 17, 2012.

Meet at the Wichita WATER Center in Hermann Hill Park (Pawnee & Broadway) a little before 6 p.m. and wear some shoes that can get wet or muddy. (No flip-flops.) The hike will start at the museum, pass by the fountains and big fish aquarium, and along a stream to the Arkansas River.

There’s no need to register in advance, and the event is free. Make sure to visit the g2gOutside website for the latest info.

g2g Outside is a local organization that holds free family activities in Wichita throughout the year to encourage play outside.

Here’s one of the upcoming activities. There’s no need to register in advance, and the event is free:

Hike the nature trail and stop at the g2g activity stations along the way to learn, explore and play your way through the park.  Watch out for wild turkeys and deer on your hike.

The family nature hike is Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 6 – 7 p.m. at Swanson Park, 1011 N. Maize Road.

Kansas State Parks Free Admission Day 2012The Kansas State Parks will have a statewide open house on March 31, 2012 with free entrance at all parks and special events and activities.

Some parks will open camping cabins for you to tour, offer free refreshments like hot dogs or bratwursts, and have activities like archery, trail rides, nature talks, or family walk/hike/run events. Also, enter to win one of several prizes:

  • A free one-night stay at a state park or public lands cabin of your choice.
  • Bass Pro Shops tent or one of several prizes consisting of Bass Pro Shops camping gear.

Besides the free admission during the State Park Open House, you can also save money by taking advantage of off-season permit prices. March 31 is the last day annual camping permits and annual vehicle permits are priced at off-season discounts.

The parks will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Get complete information at the Kansas State Parks Open House 2012 web page.
