FREE Kansas Travel GuidesTravelKS has released its 2013 Kansas guide books and they’re as pretty as they are informative. They are also FREE for the asking.

I ordered the 2013 Kansas Travel Guide and map along with the Outdoor magazine and received them last week. These guides are great for planning short Kansas getaways and just for learning more about our state. (The pictures are beautiful, too.) Now the Kansas Byways guide is also available, in print or online.

Visit the TravelKS website to order your free print guides or access Byways of Kansas online.

Orbitz hotel sale for ThanksgivingGoing out of town for Thanksgiving? Book by November 22, 2012 and you can save up to 50% off hotel stays through Orbitz. I saw double-digit prices (one as low as $24) on hotels in Las Vegas, Orlando, and even Los Angeles.

The Thanksgiving Hotel Sale is valid November 5-22.

Your mileage may vary, of course. The price depends on where and when you’re going and how long you’ll stay, but these are worth a look. I’ve also gotten a good deal on a car rental through Orbitz (it was a package deal when booking a flight), so you might check those deals as well.

This is another excellent resource for travel on the cheap, highly recommended by the frugal bloggers (and experienced travelers) at MileHighontheCheap.com and 25 million other people. The Travelzoo newsletter will alert you to deals on airfare, hotels, entertainment, sporting events, and local events. For example, they recently had $7 tickets to a Kansas City Royals game and $20 tickets to Anthony Bourdain Live in Kansas City – both long since sold out, of course. (That’s why you should get the newsletter.)

Sign Up for TravelZoo Newsletter to get travel deals that have researched and evaluated by deal experts sent straight to your inbox each week.

If you’re going out of town, be sure to check for deals that aren’t offered in our city. Goldstar discounts tickets for live entertainment, attractions, and sporting events by as much as 50%, and from what I’ve seen they have some really good deals. (“On the Cheap” bloggers in other cities recommend them.) Signing up is free, of course. See what they have in cities like Dallas, D.C., Las Vegas, New York, and more: Goldstar Events – Half Price Tickets

Here’s one of my best tips for saving money on summer vacations: Check out the state and local tourism resources at your destination and pick up free travel guides. It seems obvious, but it’s often overlooked. Those organizations work hard to attract travelers, many times offering coupons or special discounts.

At TravelGuidesFree you can find brochures, travel planning kits, and guides for all 50 states and many cities (including the official Wichita Visitor’s Guide, which is nice to have even if you live here).

Free Travel Guides and Brochures – Browse destinations, pick travel guides that you’d like, receive guides FREE by mail or download.

Whoa. They just dropped another dollar off the price of 2012 Entertainment Books.

Remember, these are the coupon books that have 1/2 off and BOGO coupons for places like the zoo, coffee shops, restaurants, and even grocery stores. The coupons don’t expire until November 2012, so you have the rest of the summer to use them.

All 2012 Entertainment Books are only $8.99 with FREE SHIPPING!

Going on vacation? Grab an Entertainment Book for your destination city. They often have great coupons for the attractions, museums, and restaurants you’ll be visiting anyway.
