The Kansas African American Museum celebrates its 34th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration this weekend with events in Wichita on Saturday and Sunday.
Events begin on Saturday, January 19, 2013 with refreshments and family activities, followed by a parade. The parade starts at 10:15 a.m. in front of the Christian Faith Centre at 1130 S. Broadway and continues north on Broadway, west on Douglas, and ends at Reflection Square Park, 205 E. Douglas.
On Sunday evening, January 20, 2013, TKAAM will hold its annual community celebration in the Century II Concert Hall from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is a $3 button.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Message in the Music” and features local dance performances, area youth choirs and the Wiley College Concert Choir. An awards ceremony will recognize those whose work in the Wichita community has carried forth Dr. King’s message of service, inspiration, and leadership.
