You can pick up free firewood and mulch daily now through February 2013 in the north parking lot of the Sedgwick County Zoo between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. No chainsaws, splitters, or other mechanical equipment will be allowed.
The Sedgwick County Zoo, Westar Energy and the City of Wichita Partner to Give Away Free Firewood and Mulch
Westar Energy, the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Zoo are teaming up to give away firewood and mulch this winter. The wood is what remains after Westar Energy’s ReliabiliTree tree trimming contractors perform line-clearance work in area neighborhoods and the City of Wichita forestry tree pruning and removal operations. Sedgwick County Zoo is proud to be part of a program that benefits our citizens, reduces waste and conserves our natural resources.
The public can pick up the free firewood and wood chips, to use as mulch, beginning Thursday, November 1 through February 2013 from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the north parking lot of the Sedgwick County Zoo. The wood is normally delivered between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. daily.
Westar Energy, the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Zoo ask that anyone picking up firewood please refrain from using chainsaws, splitters or any mechanical equipment.
