This weekend you can get 1/2 price admission to the Sedgwick County Zoo during the zoo’s Ape Awareness event. Zoo members get in free, as usual, with a photo ID.
There will be several special activities where you can learn more about the gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans living at the zoo.
The special half-price admission will be valid from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 22-24, 2012.
Here’s a little more information about the special activities planned during Ape Awareness Weekend at the Sedgwick County Zoo:
Activities for all age groups will include participating in keeper chats, learning about ape enrichment, discovering recycling opportunities, and investigating the struggles that apes face. There will also be ape merchandise available to purchase, with proceeds going toward ape conservation projects.
· Attend keeper chats daily:
11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m., & 2:30 p.m. – The Downing Gorilla Forest indoor area
1:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. – KOCH chimpanzee indoor area
1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. – KOCH orangutan indoor area
· Friday, June 22 only:
A Day in the Life of Sedgwick County Zoo’s Apes: Cool off in the Cargill Learning Center and attend a presentation at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., or 1:00 p.m.
· Saturday, June 23 only:
The apes will receive Fun in the Sun-themed enrichment:
8:30 a.m. – KOCH chimpanzee area
9:00 a.m. – KOCH orangutan indoor area
10:00 a.m. – The Downing Gorilla Forest indoor area
